Picnic!! Picnic time!!

I can’t remember the last time I went on a picnic.

Once upon a time, when we travelled up and down to our Spanish finca, we would stop at the service station for a walk and a drink and a picnic.

Sometimes Misery would buy the food inside the service station, and when she was feeling tight she would make sandwiches and take them with us. Not in summer though because warm sandwiches are pretty grotty after an hour and a half in the truck. And we always had a bag of my favourite chips/crisps.

Now Misery is a bit picky about what we are all allowed to eat, but she does relax a little and thinks these fine chips are excellent as they are junk free.

So at the weekend, after we had sat in the queue to cross the border for an hour and a half, [a boring Misery post about being stuck in the queue explains more for anyone who wants to read boring Misery posts] we all decided it would be good to have a break and stop for a picnic.

I should say that we stopped doing that a couple of years ago after a nasty person/s stole their money and ID out of the front of my Landy when we were all in the back together.

But three hours on the road (because of the queue yes?, normally we would be home by then) deserves a stop and some food and drink. Off Misery went to buy a fine tortilla sandwich – did I get any of that?

Give me those crisps. Now!

A bag of crisps, and a can of coke. Now, I would have liked some sandwich but there is no way people are eating a HUGE bag of crisps in front of me and not feeding me.

Delicious picnic, what I got of it

We all sat together next to my Landy. They sat on the kerb and I stood/lay slightly in the shade. It was wonderful. I wonder if we will do it again. Although Misery thought the chips were rather dear.

Yum

Even better eating with eyes wide shut

Now, in other news, I have been demolishing a pack of Blueberry treats from the bestest girlfriend (fiancée?) ever – dear Skye. They are wonderful, and they smell so fruity.

Master showing me my blueberry treats

And Master thinks I should make an important news alert. Here in the northern hemisphere it is tick season time.

Master and I went for a morning walk in Spain and noticed the goats and sheep had been down the street. I’m sure you can work out how we noticed. Master checked my feeties but couldn’t find any ticks.

When we got back to Gibflat, Misery noticed I had acquired a new black spot on my nose. She wiped it off. No she didn’t, it wouldn’t come off. She sighed. She considered screaming and calling sleeping Master which is what she normally does.

But then she remembered reading something on some pup’s blog (can’t remember who, will add later if remember) about using washing-up liquid. So she carefully squirted some onto kitchen towel and soaked the nasty thing, and eased it out.

Flushed with success, she decided to check for more. That was stupid wasn’t it? She was bound to find one. She looked in my ears, and there was another horrid bicho. More kitchen towel and more washing-up liquid. I am a very clean dog now. I am all washed up.

Then, when Master woke up and she proudly told him of her accomplishments, they sadly agreed on drops. I don’t like drops, they don’t like drops, but none of us like tick fever.

So pups and people, always, always remember to keep checking for those horrid ticks. I was lucky, I survived over a year ago now. But not every dog, or every person is so lucky.

Be alert for bichos.

Pippa, so nice to see you back on the blogosphere. Its not fun being cooped up for too long in a hot vehicle, so its great you got out for a picnic break. Lovely pics of you as always, looks like you drank your water bowl dry, hope it was quickly replenished.

Thank you bluonthemove. I drank lots and lots and lots of water. It was an everfilling bowl. Or is that overflowing? Anyways, lots.

Misery decided to get a tiny bottle of Rioja in the end to accompany her lunch.

I may cruise over to your blog to give my dogopinion.

  3. Glad you got your share of the picnic, Pippa!

It seems to be a bad year for ticks here too. I get treated with Advantix but #1 still goes over me to see if any horrors have hitched a ride. She uses a tick remover to rotate and prize them out.

You’ve been gone a very long time. I see that you’ve been very busy. The ticks are very bad in my neck fo the woods too, because it was a warm winter. I hate the tick goo that the Staff puts on me, but I guess its better than having little creepy crawly things all over me.

am happy to hear that all those nasty ticks were found. sorry about how awful those drops taste, but am happy to hear that you are in good care with people who are looking after you so well.

thanks for the post. it was so good to hear from you again! 🙂

Ticks are super nasty. Momma is a FREAK about not letting us stick our snooters into tall grasses and she does tick check after every walkie. That totally freaks her out because she is so scared of bugs but she is very brave just like your mom when she finds one and she pulls it off with the tweezers.

We use the drops too. I don’t much like it, but I have had the bad tick disease and that is no fun.

    Slobbers,
    Mango

P.S. More crisps for YOU next time.

Mango, great to hear from you again 🙂 Misery is not brave, but the washing up liquid did the trick. Recommended.

If I’m allowed back on the keyboard, will visit you soon.

Yay Pippa. Thanks for sharing your picnic story & pics with us. Ticks are bad & scary. I also tend to freak out about them a little, something so small and easily overlooked can be so dangerous. The G.O. gets them on him when he clears the bush out the back – it’s not even our yard. Last time I got 33 off him and had to have a couple of glasses of wine to calm my nerves. Taking the drops is better than taking risk.

Oh Pippa, I’m pleased your mistress managed to find those horrid ticks and get rid of them for you, I’d hate to think about you suffering again. I bought a tick tool when Harry got a load of them, and have had to use it on Jasper too.
Glad you had a lovely picnic, much nicer than sitting in a traffic queue.

  11. Oh, Pippa – the German here. I’ve just come in from baking on the patio. There’s a storm coming and lovely things on the wind. You look so handsome in these pictures – i could just drool…over those chips…sigh. I am on shorter rations now as the Vet yesterday said I should lose 5 pounds – But by a dog’s toe, I am just fluffy and needing a bath and good brushing(bound to be carrying a few pounds of dirt and extra hair)…and all the baking outdoors in the sun makes me retain water.
Do watch out for those nasty ticks…they are so annoying.
    Lounge on Pippa, lounge on!

Hey Pippa — We hadn’t seen you for a while so decided to check. Your posts don’t pop up on our blog the way they used to. Anyway, we were thinking about you and Misery and Master and decided to call out a posse to find you. And here you are!

    Wirey woofs,

Here I am indeed. I guess it’s the switch from blogger to wp. I will send Misery over to check you all out. Love to hear from you three (including the heron cam there).

Wuufs, Pippa. Couldn’t barks cos I was incarcerated in doggie kamp. Your picnic sounded greats. That tortilla looks soo goods. Sorrys about the ticker sucker. I use a naturals sucker repellent called Liquid Net For Pets. Kiyomi barked about it some times ago. It’s made from natural smelly stuffs. Pops sprays it on me befores every mosey. We have goats nearbys. The suckers may climb on me but they have yets to start a meal. Pops should have used it on himselfs. He found a tickers sucking on him when he was in New Mexicos. It was a baby. You are soo luckys to travels all overs. Maybes if we had a Lands Rover I could go with my peeps on their trips. Hope to barks at my place soon.

Well I’ve not been incarcerated but I might as well have been because I have been deprived of barking. I don’t know why I missed this comment. Oh yes I do, I’ve not been allowed near the keyboard. Pretty hard getting hold of natural stuffs here 😦 although they have tried lavender oil and apple cider vinegar and things like that. Not as effective as the nasty chemicals though. Misery sends her regards to your pops and says she’s pleased he found it quickly as they can be bad for peeps as well as pups.
